Jaguar C-X17 Concept
Jaguar C-X17 Concept
The Jaguar Advanced Design team, led by Julian Thomson & Sandy Boyes, asked Meridian to collaborate on the interior design proposal for the C-X17 Sports Crossover Concept that has since gone into production as the Jaguar F-Pace.
The design brief was to develop a bespoke, state-of-the-art audio system that sonically and aesthetically integrated into the Interactive Surface Console concept that allows the vehicle occupants to upload pictures, video and sound files from their mobile devices and share them with their fellow passengers, as well as on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media channels.
Using the touchscreens and an intuitive user interface, information can be shuttled forwards and rearwards between the front and the rear passengers. By enabling sharing between the occupants of the C-X17, both in terms of technology and information, the Interactive Surface Console puts as much focus on the rear compartment as on the front and allows all four occupants to share their personal media.
The C-X17’s 3D surround sound system featured an all-new architectural speaker location furthering the design principles of the proprietary Trifield 3D technology. The 28-loudspeaker system uses innovative speaker locations such as the integration of speakers into the A and B pillars to raise the acoustic and visual height.
The Meridian subwoofer ‘force cancelling’ technology is ‘gem-set’ within the rear center tunnel to provide consistent and accurate low frequency reproduction for every passenger. Height speakers have been set in the top of the head restraints to deliver the correct perception of image height, enabling each passenger to enjoy a personal and even more authentic musical experience.
The Jaguar C-X17 received the award for Concept Vehicle Interior Design at the Automotive Interiors Expo 2014 Awards in Stuttgart. The awards honour the world’s finest designers, innovations and products, championing all aspects of automotive interior excellence and innovation.
